Creating Cultures of Compassion and Liberation
Cultures of Compassion FRAMEWORK ~
Creating compassionate, equitable workplace cultures through a DEI & Trauma-informed Lens
Audre Lorde stated, that “without community there is no liberation.” Most of us spend the majority of our time in community with our co-workers and with those we serve as part of an organization. Sometimes we spend more waking time at the workplace than we do in our own homes. What would happen if the workplace became the field in which we developed our practices for refining ourselves and interactions with one another, as we shift our work cultures toward liberation and healing one company at a time?
Thank you for your interest in the Cultures of Compassion Framework - Creating compassionate, equitable workplace cultures through a DEI & trauma-informed lens.
As a liberation-focused trauma therapist, I see how trauma shows up in our lives - coloring perspectives, choices, interactions, and relationships. As a human being, I have witnessed the role trauma plays in all aspects of my own life as well the lives of most human beings I come into contact with. I also witness how targeted trauma-treatment and psychoeducation heals and changes lives.
This is why I created a Framework aimed at bringing this same kind of healing to organizations and communities. I have seen the components of this framework improve the lives of thousands of individual clients over the years as they gain a deeper understanding of themselves and how trauma shows up within the large and small systems they are a part of.
Considering that most of us spend a majority of our lives in the workplace, I envision company cultures that center harmonious, compassionate work spaces where everyone feels included, seen, and valued. Cultures where the workplace becomes fertile ground for collective healing.
As a mixed-heritage trauma therapist, I am devoted to creating cultures of compassion and liberation, one community, one company at a time!
THE THREE PILLARS
The Framework is comprised of three overlapping Pillars. Important to note, is that the pillars are non-hierarchal and inteconnected. The informational, interactive quality of each pillar is crucial to shifting and improving organizational cultures.
TRAUMA -INFORMED - When we understand trauma and how it manifests in ourselves, in the people we serve, in our community, and in the culture at large, it gives us a much wider perspective of life as modern humans. This complex aspect of our lives tends to shape our perspective about ourselves and colors our choices, interactions, and relationships. After years of working as a trauma therapist and studying under practitioners/teachers such as Dr. Gabor Maté, I have distilled key aspects of trauma treatment modalites in order to facilitate an in-depth understanding of trauma in a short amount of time.
SOCIAL JUSTICE - The social justice pillar of the training is aimed at bringing awareness to systemic inequalities that affect people from historically marginalized backgrounds (BIPOC, LBTQIA2S+, Persons with disabilities, Female-identified folx, persons from lower SES, unhoused populations) as well as the root factors from which these stem. This portion of the training meets criteria for DEI training, but through a trauma-informed lens.
COMPASSIONATE AWARENESS - Woven into all aspects of the training is the experiential, interactive component of compassion combined with subjective and objective awareness. Participants will be invited into a practice of mindfulness that is a running theme throughout the training. Specific experiential activities will be utilized to connect individuals with their innate capacity for compassion and empathy for self and others.
